3D OCT Scans
Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Ocular Coherence Tomography uses state-of-the-art technology to build up a 3D image of the eye, and has revolutionised eye disease diagnosis and monitoring. It uses light waves to scan for early changes to eye health beneath the surface of the retina (similar to sound waves in ultrasound), which would not be visible by conventional methods like ophthalmoscopy. It is particularly relevant in detecting glaucoma, age-related macula degeneration, central serous retinopathy, vitreous traction and macula holes. It is estimated that OCT scans can detect glaucoma for example four years earlier than a standard eye test. It is simple, quick and painless, and provides a permanent and invaluable record of the health of the eye.
OCT scans can be carried out at any time, either after an eye examination or, if more convenient, a separate appointment. Any questions, please ask.
